With the traditional Bridal Waltz becoming less and less used for the Bride and Grooms first dance together as man and wife it is necessary to understand the correct name for this dance.
Waltz is a dance that has 3 beats to the bar , whether it be the Modern Waltz ( a slow dance) or the Vienesse Waltz ( a faster dance ) the basic figure is , “step, side, together ” with each step worth the same amount of time. Hence it is counted 1,2,3, 1,2,3 etc.
The most popular tunes that couples choose nowadays has 4 beats to the bar and the basic count of the Slow Rhythm ( the most versatile dance ) is Slow, Slow, Quick Quick, Slow ,Slow, Quick, Quick.
A lot of other dances are also danced to music with 4 beats to the bar, ( the musical term for this is 4/4 ) Eg, Rumba , Cha Cha Cha, Jive, Mambo, Salsa, Quickstep etc. So, you cannot dance a Waltz to a 4/4 tune and visa versa.

We can include a personalised action or movement that is special to the couple . For example we trained a couple where the groom proposed at the top of the Eiffel Tower, we had the music mixed with a brief French tune and he ” Proposed again ” This was a great hit with their guests.
